(TUSA) From 14-15 Dec 2018, together with the Municipality of Tusa, New Horizons team hosted the kick-off meeting of the project RESTAT – REcognizing Skills to Transform Accessible Tourism, funded by Erasmus+ Programme, KA2 Strategic Partnerships | VET in our hometown Tusa.

Project RESTAT aims to address the training gap for Accessible tourism manifested by the scarcity of available VET training courses, and the lack of a centralized training scheme by offering a holistic, package solution to render Tourism workers and professionals competent, ready to offer diverse tailor-made services to tourists with special needs.

Such ambitious objective will be pursued by a pan-European partnership made up of  6 organizations, namely: the Municipality of Tusa – Project Coordinator (Italy), New Horizons (Italy), European Centre for Training and Employment -ECTE (Greece), Fundación Universitat Jaume I – Empresa (Spain), SC ROGEPA SRL (Romania), and  Handy Club Ostrava (Czech Republic).

The partnership demonstrates a strategic mix of competences in EU projects, VET training, quality assurance, and expertise in working with people with disability.

During the kick-off meeting, all partners had the chance to go through major technical and administrative points of the project and immediately started discussing the first output activity (O1-A1), that is a Research on national situation of Accessible Tourism.

RESTAT has a duration of 30 months (01.11.2018 – 30.04.2021) and  shall produce the following results:

– A Practical Skills and Employment Context Mapping research study (IO1) to identify a set of desirable AT skills most likely to be accumulated on-the-job, plus a set of Prospective Job Mobility Opportunities for professionals with skills in AT.

– A Skills Endorsing Tool (IO2) to objectively evaluate, recognize and even classify the level of skills tourism workers have regarding AT through successfuly completion of a series of testing devices.

– An Upskilling Course (IO3) with 04 Specific Training module of intermediate level, useful for both tourism workers and managers in rendering their services more professional, well-planned, entertaining and tailor-made to different special needs.

The next transnational meeting will be held in Baia Mare (Romania) in early June 2019, during which the first Output will be evaluated and the second Output will be discussed in details.
