Project Summary

Objectives
Many parts of the world are threatened by “overtourism”. Future professionals in the tourism industry must become aware of this so that they can react to it in the future. For this reason, a teaching unit is being developed that addresses the concept of sustainability and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. It is up-to-date, digital and interactive in English. Students from tourism sector of the participating countries can experience these lessons together in the classroom.

Activities
Workshops on the topic of sustainability are held. Visits to places that are threatened by “overtourism” as well as places that are still rather untouched.
Visits to companies in the tourism industry. Interviews and specialist presentations with companies in the hotel, shipping and/or airline industry to find out
what initiatives they have planned for the future with regard to sustainability in the tourism industry and where they see difficulties in implementation.

Impact
At the end of this project, a 10-hour innovative, interactive and digital series of lessons on the topic of “sustainable tourism” has been created. The unit ends in a simulation game, which can be carried out across countries (online with each other) in English lessons or in bilingual subject lessons in classes related to the tourism industry.
A digital vocabulary trainer is used to improve the technical language.
