About the project
In the context of mass migration, politicians and key figures have raised concerns around further crises occurring in terms of housing, employment and even terrorist attacks. This stigma towards refugees and migrants is impacting their ability to integrate into their host nation.
The ’miGREATion’ Youth Exchange educates 36 young participants from 6 countries (UK, Greece, Italy, Hungary, France and Turkey) about the benefits that refugees can bring to a country, and the necessity of accepting them. During 8 days of activities, participants were provided with the knowledge and tools to take action on a local, national and even international scale.

The Youth Exchange “miGREATion” which took place in Chalkida in September 2019 was an unforgettable experience, made of moments that now become memories, which we will always carry in our hearts, like the people who were part of it.
Certainly the topic was not an easy ones, immigration, a word that frightened us a little, but that day after day we were able to understand better, understanding also the needs that lead other people to migrate in our country and in Europe, feeling close to them, retracing those painful steps with them, feeling the cold and tears on our skin and the sadness for a lost family member.
We have learned so much in Chalkida, but we have also talked about the aspects of our country, a place where, unfortunately, sometimes racism and prejudices are the masters, but fortunately we are the future, and it is also with these projects that we can understand more about the different cultures, making important values such as tolerance and respect growing in us.
In one week we carried out research, video creation and exchange of opinions on the immigration topic with other European countries, Greece, France, Hungary, Turkey and the United Kingdom, an incredible experience of sharing among intercultural evenings, workshops and nights on the beach to create international friendships.
Finally 3 boys from the south and 3 girls from the north of Italy returned home with a new, improved vision of what surrounds us, with more attention to others and with the mission of raising awareness, even in our own small community, talking to the people around us on a such an important theme, without forgetting those friends met on the way where we left a piece of the heart among the waves of the sea.

Il progetto europeo “miGREATion” che si è tenuto a Chalkida a settembre 2019 è stata un esperienza indimenticabile fatta di momenti che ora si sono transformati in ricordi, che ci porteremo sempre nel cuore, come del resto le persone che ne hanno fatto parte.
Di certo la tematica non era una di quelle più semplici, l’immigrazione, una parola che un po’ ci spaventava, ma che giorno dopo giorno siamo riusciti a capire meglio, capendo anche le necessità che portano altre persone a immigrare nel nostro paese ed in Europa, sentendoci vicino a loro, ripercorrerendo con loro quei passi di sofferenza e dolore sentendo sulla nostra pelle i brividi di freddo e le lacrime per un familiare perso.
Abbiamo imparato tanto a Chalkida, ma abbiamo anche illustrato gli aspetti del nostro Paese, un posto dove a volte purtroppo il razzismo e i pregiudizi la fanno da padrone, ma per fortuna siamo noi il futuro, ed e proprio attraverso questi progetti che riusciamo a capire di più sulle diverse culture facendo crescere in noi valori importanti come tolleranza e rispetto.
In una settimana abbiamo svolto attività di ricerca, creazione video e scambio opinioni sul tema immigrazione con altre nazioni europee, la Grecia, la Francia, l’Ungheria, la Turchia e il Regno Unito, un incredibile esperienza di condivisione tra le serate interculturali, i workshop e le serate in spiaggia a creare amicizie internazionali.
E così 3 ragazzi del sud e 3 ragazze del nord tornano a casa con una nuova visione migliorata di quello che ci circonda, con più attenzione verso il prossimo e con la missione di sensibilizzare, anche nel nostro piccolo, le persone che abbiamo attorno su un tema così importante, senza dimenticarci quegli amici incontrati durante il cammino dove tra le onde del mare ci abbiamo lasciato un pezzetto di cuore.
